The Wisdom of the Knowing Ones by Manly P. Hall

Note: The book that I’ve read was published in 2000 by Philosophical Research Society, Inc. The book itself registered as the version of 2010 edition, written by Manly P. Hall.
QUOTES:
• The word “Gnostic” derived from the Greek “Gnosis” usually translated as “knowledge” and its antonym, “agnostic” means a non-knower, the one who denies all knowledge of ultimate realities, while a Gnostic is one who professes knowledge of such things. ~Chapter Introduction, The knowers and Their Knowledge, Pg.8
• The British scholar E.R Dodds has suggested as long as forty years ago that the writings of Gnostic derived from mystical experience. ~Chapter Introduction, Pg.9
• Orthodox Christians are agreed that we live in a fallen world which we shall leave behind at our death. ~Chapter Introduction, Concerning the Cosmos, Pg.11
• To properly appreciate the Gnostic view of Deity, one must remember that the Gnostic originated within the Semitic Monotheistic religious matrix…
… the greatest of all questions the Gnostic asked was this: Is this flawed creator truly the ultimate, true and good God? Or might he be a lesser deity, a sort of large, but nor very wise angel, who has become either ignorant of a greater power beyond himself or is an imposter, impersonating the universal God?
The Gnostic answered these questions by saying that this creator is obviously not the ultimate, the God, but rather a demiurges (craftsman), an intermediate secondary deity. ~Chapter Introduction, Concerning the Cosmos, Pg.12
• Within the humor dwells a “divine spark”, a spirit that is older than the created world and all in it. Much of the time we are ignorant of the divine spark resident within us. ~Chapter Introduction, The Humans Predicament, Pg. 13
• The great Messengers of the Light come to stimulate this potential and they do so not by their death but by their lives. The ministry of these Messengers is twofold: first, they bring us teachings which lead our minds and heart to Gnosis: and, second, they confer liberating mysteries, which with their mystic grace bring the fullness of liberating Gnosis which is thus sealed in our spirits forever. ~Chapter Introduction, Pg. 16
[Note: Chapter Introduction was written by Stephen A. Haeller.]
• Spirit which is the common substance of universals, likewise exists according to states…
Energy, or force as it was known in old times, is likewise as extension of spirit, but this extension is subject to greater limitations than intellect because it is definable. ~Chapter 1. Gnosticism, the Key to Esoteric Christianity, Pg.21
• He (Plato) used the analogy of light and darkness; Light is principle, darkness is not a principle—it is merely the absence of light. ~Chapter 1, Pg.22-23
• Did light precede darkness or did darkness precede light? … … Most systems inter that darkness preceded light and is therefore more ancient, more universal, and more real… …
Is absence then greater than presence? Presence always exists in a field consisting of the absence of itself. One condition is not definable without the other. They are “co-eternal” and “co-dependent”, with absence always in excess of presence…
It is like the problem of food and appetite. Hunger is the absence of food. Food is the solution of hunger. Food is real and definable. Hunger has no dimension or appearance. Which then, is the reality? … …
If light is food and darkness is hunger, which is the more real? Food is a temporary solution to an eternal problem. All this is very confusing. ~Chapter 1, Pg.23

The Unexplainable Feeling of Longing: A Place Your Soul Called Home

The unexplainable feeling of longing for a place, that one does not even know and never feel like to relate with that place before, it can be a sign of recognizing the identity of a soul. Seeing a picture of a certain place may trigger a soul to feel the great longing, the feeling like they have been there before. The spiritualists believe oneself may experience the feeling similar to déjà vu, while it is also called as recognizing the true home of the soul. It sounds like soul-searching, and maybe it is.

When the unknown feeling suddenly appears, it feels like a myth that needs a body of proof. Some says it is the feeling of loneliness, but some say it is probably a strange feeling that’s called saudade. The spiritualists, and also for those who believe more about God and everything metaphysical tends to prefer the latter. Have you ever felt a weird feeling in your chest, the heavy and strong feeling of longing about something you are not sure about?

According to the Wikipedia.com; Saudade is a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing might never return.

If one has experienced the feeling of misplace about where one currently resides, there is a possibility that the soul wants to feel the nostalgia of being somewhere out there.

The first origin nature of the soul knows what it wants, but the outer mind can’t process the unknown images that are never been there before. It is the absence of the mind that prevents the soul from reaching its peak to release a deep emotional state and melancholy. Thereafter, the feeling can baffle the mind from understanding the situation.

Maybe there are people out there, who come across with a picture of a beautiful place on the internet, and suddenly their tears start falling out of nonsense. It such nonsense to cry for nothing, but maybe it is the soul who cries, longing for a place that once called home.

Take this for example; a woman wants to go travelling, but she isn’t sure where to go, and so, when she tries to look on the internet, she comes across with many of beautiful places. Until then, she found a certain place she never saw before in Italy. Through the images, her eyes lingered, and tears starts falling. Her mind cannot process why she cries for a place she has never seen before, but she feels really relate to that place.

There are probably people that have a strange feeling of wanting something, like an urge to go away from anyone, locking themselves up from the world for a while. Sometimes a person wants to hide away somewhere far away, don’t feel like losing oneself in an alleyway. Many people won’t understand with being in a state of isolation, because it’s such an unusual thing to be happened.

That’s why it is called as the feeling of saudade. It’s not understandable, being melancholy without a reason to be known. But perhaps, one day, the person who has experienced the feeling itself can find the reason why. Since it is a matter of heart, each soul has the answer. Every journey will lead someone to learn about something.

Know the unknown, to reveal the mystery.

Understanding Our Minds: Between Intuition and Assumption

Have you ever got a gut of feeling, but you weren’t sure of what you felt?

The people that are older than us tend to give a simple advice to be always sure of what we feel for ourselves, and to trust our first gut of feeling when something happened.

It is true that what we feel for the first time, especially when nothing triggers our mind to have such thoughts, it comes from our inner self, or as some of the spiritualists called it as our higher divine.

Human’s mind is mysterious and complicated to be understood. Understanding your perspective of how you see the world, either in a bigger picture or smaller picture. One can only hones their thoughts throughout life and experience. Every mind creates difference thought, depends on everyone’s surrounding.

Whether when we are alone, looking out at the street view behind the cafe’s window, or when we are in the middle of doing something in the crowd, sometimes, there is a single hunch comes into our minds. If it comes when nothing triggers our minds, there is a chance that our higher divine is trying to send a message. But sometimes when we see a certain sign, it can also work out. For example, like seeing a black crow, which some says it means that a bad omen comes for the one who sees it, such as death.

Or another example of our everyday life when we meet someone new, we usually have certain impression about someone that we don’t know after all. Such impression hovered in our minds, making us conflicted whether to think of this or that someone as a good person or an evil person.

Anything is possible, but don’t be dead sure about everything. A glimpse of thought can become a mere assumption if we don’t take things heedfully.

If that’s the case, now is time for the crucial question: Is your instinct playing a trick on you?

Between intuition and assumption, there’s a flimsy difference. One can only be certain of their instinct after a related event occurs. That is being said, human’s mind is the mystery of the unknown.

An assumption is a thought in the wake of occurrence about we think of something. It is usually born from a wishful thinking, and the result may vary, depends on one’s background, religion, and environment.

It doesn’t matter where we come from or what education we receive, it is all about our spirituality. The more we have a deeper spiritual aspect in our life, the more understanding we will receive about our intuition, and for that, we can distinguish the thoughts that come into our mind, whether it is really our instinct that takes part, or it is just a mere and shallow assumption.

Tragedi Setan: Iblis dalam Psikologi Sufi oleh Peter J.Awn (Buku Terjemahan)

tragedi2bsetan2biblis2bdalam2bpsikologi2bsufi

BOOK REVIEW:

Book Quotes – Reincarnation: The Cycle of Necessity by Manly P. Hall

Greetings!

I’ve just finished reading another great book last week by Manly P. Hall, he was a professor/philosopher in the field of spiritual world. I thought I’d be happy to share on this blog the quotes that I’ve highlighted in purpose for spiritual learning about reincarnation and karma. Anyway, his books are not pretty easy to find around the internet, it took me a long time to find some of his books through link by link on Google, I was actually more like stuck and lost, and surprisingly in the end, I could find his book about reincarnation.

Quotes from book “Reincarnation: The Cycle of Necessity” by Manly P. Hall

  • It is obvious that no one can be compelled to accept a belief because that belief is enlightened. ~By Way of Introduction, Pg.12
  • Literally the word reincarnation means to incarnate again, to be re-embodied, or more accurately, to be re-enflashed; to return after death to the physical of terms. ~Pg.15
  • “Immortality” simply means the deathlessness of the spirit. Immortality is agreed upon by the greater part of the human race, but as the term does not imply any necessity for physical rebirth the belief in immortality is not synonymous with the belief in reincarnation. ~Pg.17
  • “Personality” is the term applied to the complex of mind, emotion, sense, and form. Personalities are those objective parts of man’s composite nature which are discernible or uninformed. To most people reincarnation signifies the re-embodiment of their personalities. This is the key to the confusion in Isis Unveiled wherein Mme. Blavatsky insists that personalities are not reborn except under unusual conditions. ~Pg.18
  • “Memory of Past Lives” : in both the Eastern and Western schools the memory of past lives is awakened only after initiation into the Mysteries. This memory is preserved in the permanent self and may be contacted when the lower personality is lifted up by discipline into communion or participation with the self. For the uninitiated there is no advantage in remembering past personalities. ~Pg.19-20
  • There was no escape from the laws of life and death except the ultimate Nirvana. ~Previous Life of Buddha, Pg.35
  • Wisdom does not bestow immortality upon the body rather it elevates the consciousness, giving patience, and understanding. ~Previous Life of Buddha, Pg.35
  • We all believe what we desire to believe, and those who desire to be immortal attempt to believe immortality into a fact. ~Pg.40
  • To one who has lived long, long life means little; to a world that has experienced much, suffered much, mellowed with ages of existence. ~Pg.40
  • The Koran (Al-Quran) is the final authority of Islam. The enthusiastic moslem declares that not one line, not one character; not even a single punctuation mark of the Koran has ever been changed. They advance this book as the only scriptural writing in the world that has not suffered the corruption of revision or translation. ~Reincarnation in Islam, Pg.61
  • The Koran contains one Sura that is interpreted by numerous modern moslem as authority for the belief in metempsychosis, “God generates beings, and here they return to him.” This statement appears to be specific and incapable of other interpretation, but it is only fair to say that reincarnation is a disputed point in Islamic orthodoxy. ~Pg.62

Book Teaser – Roses Bones (The Royal Arcanum Series #3)

Will you wait, surrender, or make a move? The truth is, only you, yourself who can know the answer for a truth in your life. Some says; if you give up, you can’t never know, if you seek, maybe you’ll know. But the truth is, no one will know the mystery, unless it flashes before your eyes. But some says the truth is bitter. No one can make a decision for your life, unless you let them. Will you find it?

*Note: I know it’s still a long way to go, but I always get excited to share this with people who follow the story throughout the Royal Arcanum series. For anyone who doesn’t know about the first installment, you can read further on the book menu, since this one is showing a book teaser for the third installment, which is Roses Bones. Okay, If anyone ever wondering, it’s not literally a rose that has bone, nope, it’s some kind of metaphor, but you’ll only find out if you read the full story. Thank you^^

Sincerely,

Keefe R.D

Book Study: The Garden of Truth by Seyyed Hossein Nasr

Berikut flashback cerita, sebelum saya mempelajari buku The Garden of Truth;

“Great books write themselves, only bad books have to be written”

Many writers, including A S Byatt, have said their books sort of wrote themselves, though if you go with F. Scott Fitzgerald’s assertion that “Great books write themselves, only bad books have to be written” then spirits have exclusively great taste.

~Hal.264

~Hal.328 (Bab 64: Antara Pengetahuan Inderawi da pengetahuan Relijius)

Musuhmu bukanlah daging dan tulangnya, melainkan pikiran jahatnya. ~Hal.336-337 (Bab 68: Musuhmu Bukan Daging dan Tulangnya, tapi Pikiran Jahatnya)
